Netherlands passes limit of 17 million inhabitants – NU.nl

The additional million inhabitants are mostly ended up in municipalities in the Randstad that were already densely populated, the Central Bureau reports for Statistics (CBS).

Earlier this month reported the CBS already that the 17 millionth resident could be expected on 21 March. Who the 17 millionth inhabitant, CBS can not say.

The site of CBS to follow a population counter, which gives an estimate of the number of inhabitants in the Netherlands. Around 11.45 am the 17 million mark was reached, then the counter went down slightly.

In recent years the number of inhabitants rises hardest because immigrants (previous year 200,000) instead of babies (previous year: 170,000). Chances are also high that the 17 millionth Dutchman is an immigrant, not a baby.



Towns

Amsterdam had nearly 100,000 inhabitants in the last fifteen years. Also, Utrecht, The Hague and Almere were rapidly growing congregations. Rotterdam compared to other large municipalities not hard grew by 20,000 additional people.
