Ele month some 250 Albanians ask for asylum in the Netherlands. That is at present even the largest group seeking asylum, as late as a spokesman for the Ministry of Security and Justice to NOS know.
Since the summer of 2015, the number of asylum applications from Albanians has exploded. To 2014 annual asked several dozen Albanians asylum. Last year there were 1010 and in the first two months of 2016 are already 480. But Albanians in the Netherlands but hardly likely to asylum. That’s because Albania is on the list of safe countries. Since early last year only four Albanians were given a residence permit, while those rejected for 795 others.
According to the Ministry of Security and Justice, the number of Albanians that requested asylum rose again in March. How many applications there are just could not say the ministry. That the number of Albanians is now the largest group, is partly due to the decrease in the number of Syrians. While there applied for at the peak in autumn more than 5,000 Syrians asylum, that there are only a few hundred per month. If you know more people who come through family reunification here, Syrians are still the largest group.
Although Albanians have little chance of asylum they appear en masse to flee their country. That would come on the one hand by encouraging people smugglers, who make it a lot on the other hand because of the poverty in the country. Albania is currently one of the poorest countries in Europe.
