The decline in the number of problem youth groups, which is ongoing since 2009, has continued in recent years. According to a report by the Ministry of Security and Justice this morning sent to the House. During the past year the number of problematic youth groups fell by more than eighteen percent compared to 2013.

The number of problematic youth groups since 2009 fell by 64 percent. In that year there were 1760 of these problematic youth groups, now that number has dropped to 623.

The Department makes in measuring the number of problem youth groups distinction between ‘annoying’ youth groups (hang around, make noise) , ‘nuisance’ youth groups (provocations, demolitions, light crime) and ‘criminal’ youth groups (heavier crime and violence). In all these categories in the past year to see a decline. The number of troublesome youth groups decreased by 20 percent, the number of nuisance by 11 percent and the number of crime by 27 percent.

In 2009, the ministry came up with a special approach to youth groups in recent years is the whole country rolled out. In Amsterdam, The Hague and Utrecht came especially policies aimed at combating crime in the groups, but also on supervision of young people to school or work.
