The police unions have the new Minister of Security and Justice Ard van der Steur an ultimatum to come up with a better collective proposal. The minister has until Monday, April 13th for this, he wants to avoid tougher actions of police personnel
.
In order to keep up the pressure, run Wednesday several hundred police officers from across the country in a parade through The Hague. Next, Van der Steur gets a ‘final warning’ handed. This happens after the ceremony where the new police chief Gerard Bouman police priority is given by King Willem-Alexander.
The unions demand besides a wage increase of 3.3 percent also other measures such as a bonus in connection with the radical reorganization going through the police. The police have not had a raise in four years.
The unions emphasize that they have never considered to disrupt the ceremony itself. They find it “inappropriate” to involve members of the royal family in a collective conflict.
The Malieveld is the meeting point of the event, in front of the headquarters of the National Police. From there the journey of protesting police officers goes to the Ministry of Security and Justice.
Police employees carry since last month action. So write agents only fines off at “gross violations” of public order and safety. In all other cases it is enough to give a warning. Furthermore, keep them periodically slowly actions on motorways and ‘siren actions’
How the harder protests, if any will see, is not yet known
