UTRECHT – The number of homeless people in the Netherlands in six year increased by three-quarters. It reports the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). It is estimated that 31,000 people had no fixed abode last year.
Also in the city of Utrecht is, according to Hendrik-Jan de Wolff Salvation Army Central Netherlands increased to see. “Our low-threshold care we notice a large increase in the front compared to last year. So those filings. We now have sixty to seventy waiting. Last year there were about twenty.”
the Wolff suspects that the increase is due to the economic crisis. There are, according to him less facilities in mental health care and access to the Long-Term Care Act became difficult.
Foundation Tussenvoorziening Utrecht sees more applications, but is particularly concerned about the slow outflow. “Late last year we had about 177 people who were ready to return to live independently, but they were on the waiting list for a home.
