Boaters risk with a two-stroke engine penalty from January 1 next year. Councillor Udo Kock of Water Management explains: “We aim to improve air quality and health for all Amsterdammers, so we are going to ban heavily polluting two-stroke engines on the water.
Studies have shown that other engines a have lower emissions of pollutants such as particulate matter, carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons. Water supply will actively enforce the ban. The municipality thinks there are between 1,000 and 1,500 “tweetakters’ sail around in Amsterdam.
