at the dealership you pay is almost always more than is in the ad. That is because the so-called “car curb costs’ which brings the car dealer charged on top of the retail price. That amount could increase from 600 up to 1500 euros per car. That conclusion ACM draw after reviewing advertisements of new cars of all brands.
ACM speaks primarily to importers of cars, since they are almost always responsible for national advertisements, brochures and other promotional materials. After November 1, 2016, importers get a penalty or a hefty fine if the unavoidable costs are not included in the MSRP.
For example,Unavoidable costs in the ad price
Auto Curb Costs’ transport costs , disposal of packaging materials, registration with the RDW, license plates and recycling contribution. These costs must be incurred in order to drive out of the garage with the new car. The law states that all the unavoidable costs of a product must be included in the advertisement price. It is misleading that this does not happen so far.
“For the price is in the ad, you have to drive out of the showroom that car. The automotive industry should be clear about that. Unavoidable costs should just stand in the ad price, “said Chris Fonteijn, CEO of ACM.
compare Easier
ACM wants the charges to consumers are transparent. In this way, the comparison of services and products easier. That is good for competition between firms and thus low prices, better quality and service.
The advertised price of a car will soon sit all unavoidable costs. Dealers may of course differ from the total list price that is in the ad. Consumers can also negotiate the final price at which the car is purchased.
The Consumers’ Association has previously campaigned to get the car prices “including curb costs. The ANWB has previously stated that there are still many unclear prices in the automotive industry.
