Nijmegen band The State receives million grant – De Gelderlander

NIJMEGEN – Nijmegen pop band The state receives almost 1 million grant from the state. The band that money to give a series of special concerts – some with their backs to the audience – and record albums. “Very special,” so popkenner Alex van der Hulst reacts to grant the Performing Arts Fund grants to the Nijmegen musicians.

 The State will spend the next four years with the money, make a small 2.5 tons per year, several projects. So they make songs based on stories by elderly. Before going bandleader Torre Florim and singer Rose Rebergen Tire Roosbeef to visit (or stay in) a care home, getting to know the people and their stories to turn into lyrics. The two did earlier such projects with people with intellectual disabilities.

 In the autumn of 2017 is the live EP album D , and will give the band ‘Circle Shows. Here, the band members lined up on a low stage in a circle, with their faces inward. The audience is there than around it, and the State wants to add at the show dance in some songs. Also will keep the band headphone sessions’, where twenty public can listen in the studio for new repertoire and in between can ask questions and can respond. The band will also go rearrange existing work as well as in public involvement. “The state wants to make what is not there yet and as little as possible by the show impede private boundaries in the field,” says the Fund in a note to the grant.

Muse

 The Nijmegen band was extremely successful. This spring was the band opening for a tour of the world band Muse and entered the State twice at Pinkpop. The band also won awards as Edison and 3FM Awards. The last album D performs well.

“But financially farmers do not hear so well,” Van der Hulst thinks. “In such a program to be mainly an investment, because you deserve nothing on. And all they indeed deserve, they are investing in the next project. They always look forward. “According to the Performing Arts Fund proceeds the band financially ‘deliberate’. speaks from the plans’ enthusiasm and a clear artistic vision for the future. ” The Fund takes the musicians of State solid craftsmen, but “their instrumental skills in the eyes of the committee not virtuoso.”
