“Chip in ov card is to crack a few minutes’ – nrc.nl

The encryption of the smartcard appears to crack a few minutes, say researchers at Radboud University against NU.nl . That’s because of a weakness in the Mifare Classic chip, for example, which is also used for hotel rooms. Without that flaw takes several weeks to crack the encryption.

The card is to crack with a card reader and special software. After that trip locations on the map and can be adjusted to change the balance. When entitles the door code can be copied. The leak is still no solution. The researchers supplier NXP informed of the flaw.

In August last year showed that all travel data from smartcard holders with an account on ov-chipkaart.nl were not entirely safe.
