Before pleading Victim Netherlands, the Association of Missing and relatives, reports De Volkskrant .

According to the newspaper example, the problems arise when the breadwinner of a family disappears without a trace . An employer is someone who no longer appears on his work, standing dismiss foot. The family will then be left without revenues, while fixed costs remain as through a mortgage.

insurance and subscriptions can not be canceled without a signature of the person. A surviving partner who gets into payment difficulties, for example, a house bought together can not sell, because this is the signature of the missing necessary.

Victim says it annually through the police about 150 cases by will of Dutch who have long missing at home or abroad. The family of these people often veer into a bureaucracy, because banks and government agencies have no protocol for dealing with people who have disappeared, but who has not been proven that they are deceased.

“You’re the law alive or you no longer alive, “said a spokesman for Victim Support to the newspaper. “That seems logical, but it causes many practical problems a separate legal status for missing persons would solve that.”.
