This emerges from a survey conducted by the Dutch Association of Councillors among all its members.
About 2,600 municipal councilors (almost a third) completed the questionnaire. The reason for the investigation were heated discussions in recent months around the establishment of azc’s.
Councillors were mainly related to threats via social media, but it happened also face-to-face and by phone, email mail or post. Councillors indicated that there has been a limit to them when threats affect their personal situation.
“If there are threats coming to my address, I can do that, but when it affects my home situation (wife and children) I will stop immediately, “said a local councilor. Another council member indicated by the threats “not quite feel free to say anything”
