Bussemakerhuis calls for searching female party leaders – NU.nl

The only female party leader is, as it looks now, Marianne Thieme of the Party for the Animals.

Bussemaker wants party leaders more actively seek out female politicians who could possibly develop into leader.

“They should create a breeding ground,” the minister presents the AD. “ But now it is too late. Once we were at the forefront when it comes to the number of women in politics. The Netherlands”

No need

Bussemakerhuis urges women to be a candidate for parliament. “Politicians could use some more women,” she says.

The Labour Minister feels himself moreover not called to be a candidate for the party leadership of her party. “I feel at this moment no need to interfere in the debate on the party leadership,” said Bussemaker

Record number

in 2008, there were parliament as many male as female political groups.

the five women who led a faction in the Chamber at the time were Thieme, Agnes Kant (SP), Mariette hammer (PvdA), Femke Halsema (GroenLinks) and Rita Verdonk (as a group of one was in the room)

“This proves once again: emancipation requires maintenance.”, Bussemaker stresses in the AD .

the previous record established Netherlands in 1986, when the House had four female chairmen. It was the four parties that would later merge to GL: PPR (Ria Beckers), CPN (Ina Brouwer), PSP (Andrée van Es) and EPP (Cathy Ubels)
