In the past six months 50 150 UWV provided new benefits to young people up to 27 years. This is a decrease of 7,000 compared with the same period last year. The decrease was strongest from the construction sector (-37%) and health care, wellbeing and culture (-31%). The improving construction and health care, where the jobs shrinkage has stopped, ensure the plummeting inflows in these sectors. Only in the transport and storage and in the retail sector, the number of new benefits explains. In retail, where many young people are employed, recent major bankruptcies have led to an increase in new benefits.
At the end of March 2016 stood at UWV 97,600 young people under 27 years registered as jobseekers. 48% of these young people are poorly educated and do not have basic qualifications, 9% is highly educated. UWV submitted late March nearly 37,000 current unemployment benefits to young people. Young people have to resign not always entitled to unemployment benefits. The dynamics of unemployment among young people also greater than in the older age groups, as young people often have a flexible contract and a shorter employment history.
