Concerns about Edward Snowden after cryptic tweets – Yahoo! News

On social media is much fuss after several mysterious messages on the Twitter account of whistleblower Edward Snowden appeared. Many followers fear that something happened to him, but a journalist friend who speaks against posts.

Snowden in 2013 revealed a series of documents showing how widespread the US intelligence NSA eavesdrops on global communications. To stay out of the hands of the American OM then he decided to seek asylum in Russia. Since then he resides there.

Secret code

The day before yesterday sent the whistleblower a tweet from 64 apparently random characters. Shortly afterwards worry about the mysterious message. Many people suspect that the signs are a code, and that the message was sent automatically as a result of so-called “dead man’s switch”: a mechanism that automatically activates when someone has not signed anywhere too long, because he is arrested or murdered.

With the code, so it is suspected, new documents that Snowden yet be unlocked published. Snowden has to have spread encrypted files previously shown to journalists.

It’s time

The speculation about the meaning of the message will be further fueled by past messages that Snowden last week has sent. So he sent a short message with the text “It’s time,” and he called on people who have been in contact with him since 2013 to re-contact.

All tweets are quickly removed after placement . Outside the rumors, it is not clear what the messages mean, but according to journalist Glenn Greenwald – who worked with Snowden in the publication in 2013 is not in danger the whistleblower. Snowden has not let himself more vocal since since the sending of the ‘code’.
