Frisian village Rijs gets no great center for asylum seekers – NU.nl

Rijs’s opposition to the arrival of a large number of asylum seekers. In the village live 160 people. Many residents fear that the large number of asylum seekers does not benefit the rest of the village.

The mayor and aldermen now done in consultation with the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) to open a center for asylum seekers one of the cores of Frisian Lakes. It then goes to Lemmer, Balk and Joure.

The idea was that the asylum seekers would be housed in the building of a former institution for young people with behavioral problems. The additional meeting on Friday was necessary because there Thursday no decision had been made during the council meeting.

Earlier originated in Orange (Drenthe) concern about the arrival of hundreds of asylum seekers. Orange employs 140 people. The municipality of Midden-Drenthe are looking at how many asylum seekers can handle the village.

Secretary Fred Teeven (Security and Justice) is involved in the plans. He was on December 2 in Orange to talk to the troubled people
