More young and rather victim crimes – NU.nl

More young and rather victim crimes – NU.nl

This is evident from the Children Tuesday Monitor 2013 (pdf) of the Children’s Ombudsman Marc Dullaert.

Children seem to him too often victim. “This monitor shows that the Netherlands falls short in ensuring the safety of children,” the Children’s Ombudsman.

Dullaert was deeply concerned. For example, each year approximately 62,000 children first victim of criminal sexual assault. The number of registered child victims of trafficking has also increased.

It is also a rise in the number of reports of child pornography. Ten percent of young people between 15 and 18 years has to do with bullying over the internet.

Poverty

This is the third time that the Children’s Ombudsman on the basis of facts and figures monitors the state of compliance with children’s rights in the Netherlands.

One of his biggest concerns is the number of children growing up in poverty. Compared to 2011, the number of children living in households with low income further increased to 432,000 in 2012.

Another 380,000 children are growing up in a family with an income below the so-called non-many but-sufficient criterion. Even more children grow up in single parent families. Since 2009, the number of children living in households on welfare increased. This situation is by children as ‘very annoying’ experience

Child Package

The Children’s Ombudsman has observed that the government is aware of the need to tackle child poverty. More and more municipalities give a child package to that group, so that satisfy basic needs.

For example, the city of Amsterdam gives a child package to parents or guardians who have an income at or slightly above the level of assistance. This group of 11-, 12- and 13-year-olds get vouchers for clothing and activities.

The Children’s Ombudsman continues to draw attention to child abuse. According to him, there is no prospect of a decline. Municipalities can do more to protect children under Dullaert
