Netherlands is the only country in the world that gets two streets in the new world edition of Monopoly. Four million people from around the world voted and Amsterdam and Giethoorn stand between cities like New York, Sydney and Madrid

No, unfortunately we do not have an expensive blue box – in the Dutch edition of the Kalverstraat Leidsestraat – won. A green then? “No, Amsterdam comes in a street just after prison,” explains Tessa Louwersheimer games company Hasbro.

Of the eighty cities that were selected for the new world edition, Amsterdam ended sixteenth. “This puts the city between Sydney and New York, on the spot where lie with the Dutch edition Haarlem cities.

A total of four million people from 182 countries voted for their favorite city or town. With the global election Monopoly celebrates his eightieth birthday. On the board game, due out in September, eventually come 22 places.

Charm Offensive Giethoorn
The site distribution is somewhat curious. The most expensive city is Lima and Madrid have contacted the cheapest box.

That Giethoorn, a small village with 2500 inhabitants, is on the board game (in place of De Brink), has everything to do with the charm -offensief that the village has had. “In the last week that was to be voted, towns and villages that were not selected by us had the opportunity to present themselves for the final two spots on the board game: the village streets. Giethoorn managed to win by force majeure. ‘

The sites will not be identified by a street name on the board game. That saves a debate about which Amsterdam street than it should be: the Kalverstraat, Leidsestraat or rather yet another street which we can make a good impression on the world stage
