Van der Steur new Minister of Justice ‘- AD.nl

VVD Ard van der Steur (45) is the new Minister of Security and Justice. He follows the earlier this month resigned Opstelten on. Sources confirm around the cabinet after reporting by the Telegraaf that Van der Steur Friday sworn in by the king.



The 45-year-old Van der Steur is since 2010 in the House for the VVD. The native of Haarlem adheres to the Chamber engaged in criminal and procedural law, judiciary, prisons and TBS, probation, gun laws, serious crime and crime victim policy. He is also a member of the inquiry committee to examine the Fyra debacle. Since 1989 he has been a member of the VVD.

Gerard Adriaan van der Steur studied law at Leiden University and worked at the law firm NautaDutilh. He was also a part-time professor of civil law at the Leiden Law Faculty.

His political life began as a member of the council of Teylingen. He won debating Dutch championship in 1991.

Van der Steur follows Opstelten, who earlier stepped down as minister because there was uncertainty arose about the Teevendeal. Secretary Fred Teeven also stepped on.
