The Dutch Embassy in Rome provides money for the restoration of the Barcaccia fountain Rome, who last month was destroyed by Feyenoord supporters.
The contribution is through the association Salviamo La Barcaccia (Let’s save the Barcaccia), which Dutch ‘associations’ have established in Rome. Development minister Bert Koenders of Foreign Affairs announced today in response to questions from three First MPs of VVD, PvdA and D66.
The money from Salviamo is not only used as a contribution to the restoration of the fountain the foot of the Spanish Steps in central Rome, but will also benefit the broader objective of the association to help maintain the cultural heritage in the Italian capital. . The ugly ship
The damage to the recently restored Barcaccia ( the ugly ship) is estimated at 75,000 euros. On Monday, March 9th Salviamo had already gathered 22,500 euro. In have the recommending committee of the association among others Princess Christina, the Dutch ambassador to Italy Michiel den Hond, Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb of Rotterdam and former minister Ed Nijpels as chairman of the Friends of the Church took the Frisians session.
