Leeuwarden City Council approves coming azc – De Gelderlander

A large majority of the city council in Leeuwarden for the arrival of a refugee center. Only the VVD was strongly opposed during the council meeting Monday night. The reception center for up to 600 asylum seekers for up to ten years is likely to be housed in a former post sorting.

The council passed quietly. There were only a few opponents. Two of them were dealing with a protest sign. Also at an earlier briefing about the arrival of the refugees were no riots or tirades, as at gatherings in the rest of the country.

The city of Leeuwarden spoke earlier of Frisian sobriety among the people.

Until 2025
The municipality made two weeks ago to be aware prepared to receive six hundred refugees. It is a providential temporary until December 2025. Together with the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) Leeuwarden has recently looked at the possibilities.

The building and grounds give the Snekertrekweg according to the COA enough space to set up a high-quality reception center. It is expected that the first refugees end of 2016 may end up in Leeuwarden.

Acceptance
the Frisian political opinions are divided. The VVD is against the decision to an AZC to sites across the city. The party fears that the support and acceptance in the community unnecessarily being put under pressure and there is not enough place for refugees to provide a permanent place. Among others, the CDA for the reception of asylum seekers, provided it is in good consultation.

The Mayor and Aldermen announced earlier to take into account the opinion of the council members and local residents. Many local residents are not incidentally: in the immediate vicinity of the newly built reception center are to be found mainly companies. However, the location is close to shops, train station and within walking distance of downtown, what advantages for future residents.
