First JSF jets land at Leeuwarden Air Base – NU.nl

The first aircraft landed just after 21:15 pm, more than an hour later than previously thought. The second aircraft landed at 21:30.

The airbase this is the first in Europe. It is the first time that the JSF (or F35) to see outside the United States.

Defence Minister Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert was present on the basis of the arrival. At 19:00 she flew to meet the JSF with a transport plane. Above Scotland they called the pilots welcome in Dutch airspace.



Spotters

Early in the evening there were a hundred cars parked plane spotters at a designated pasture. Many of the spotters had stairs and cameras along.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Defence said a good atmosphere prior to landing. “It’s pretty crowded and the spotters seem thrilled It is of course the first time they will see the JSF.” He told NU.nl
