More 17-year-olds have driving license – NU.nl

At the same time, the number of young people with a moped and car without driving license, the Central Bureau reports for Statistics (CBS) Friday. The moped ownership in this group of young people is falling.

Since the project 2toDrive started in 2011, young people may begin driving lessons when they are 16.5 years old, and ride off on their 17th. Graduates then allowed to age 18 driving under the guidance of an experienced driver.

Yet most young people choose to get the license on their 18th. Beginning in 2016 was 8.2 percent of the 17-year-olds a license, compared with 44 percent of 18- and 19-year-olds. In the group of 20- to 25-year olds itself 70 percent of a driver’s license.



Moped

Between 2014 and 2016, the share of young people with a moped certificate from 10.3 to 9.6 per cent. In addition, decreased the number of 17 year olds with a moped since 2011 from 35,000 to 11,000.

This decrease was partly due to the introduction of the practical test for mopeds. Therefore young people had to make additional cost for a moped license
