Third time

two times before it went wrong at the unguarded transition to the Voslaan. Two years ago, a 24-year-old man killed when his car crossed and the train him to hit. Half a year before happened to a 67-year-old man the same when he came across the transition wanted to drive.

The call for barriers was after the accident large. Until today they are not posted. Another option is to have the handle completely to close and another road parallel to the track. That is also not successful, because railway infrastructure manager ProRail and the municipality of Winsum with multiple land owners in the vicinity in conversation.

It is the second time in a year’s time, that there is a serious accident with a Arrivatrein. In February came in Dalfsen, a hydraulic platform and a train collide. The driver did not survive the accident.

Secure by 2020

In June of this year it became known that there are 6.5 million euro is allocated to ten transitions, including those in Winsum,to protect. It should be ready by 2020. The handle at the height of the Voslaan would be the first to be addressed. The millions are placed on the table by the ministry of Infrastructure and Environment, the province and the municipality of Winsum. The idea is that some level crossings in Winsum and the surrounding area where no accidents have taken place, to be better protected.

The fatalities were for the ministry reason to take action and, in consultation with spoorwegbeheerder ProRail is the dangerous transitions to address. In the Netherlands there are about 120 so-called inactive Secure Transitions (or tablet laptop). Passers-by of this be consider here only a board or andreaskruis warned for possible approaching trains. With the plans in Winsum the coming years, the first eight percent of those considering in the Netherlands a safer place.

Within a year approaches

After the accident of Friday want to the municipality and ProRail that almost made the securing of level crossings. Within a year, we need all seven of unguarded transitions to address. We have now all sails”, let ProRail ceo Eringa know.

Especially the land acquisition that is necessary to a noodweg of the transitions, the secure is an obstacle. There are all kinds of jurdische and formal procedures to fasting, which costs time. Mayor Michels of Winsum want to be there now in a hurry. ,,The land acquisition is difficult, it slows down the approach of the spoorovergangen. We should now, if necessary, to proceed to expropriate the land.”

Questions

Of Cover has, together with his colleague Henk Nijboer of the unsafe situation three times already previously been discussed in The Hague. “We have said that there really is a solution needed for this problem. That was even before the dead fell. When that happened, and that was the case in a higher gear, but I now come to the conclusion that the issue is still not resolved. I understand there really is no nut.’

The Mp states that Wilma Mansveld, the previous secretary of state, had instructed the situation to tackle. “If you then, as a gruesome accident as today, then there must be something going on in relation to ProRail. I do not understand that ProRail has not done what it should do and that is to protect.’
