Again, fewer godwits in the Netherlands counted – NOS

There are fewer and fewer godwits in the Netherlands. In the national census of the bird conservation and the University of Groningen, were this year 4000 boy is counted. That must of 11,000 for the number of godwits to maintain.

Connoisseurs complaining for years about the declining state of the weidevogel. Lawns are often too dry or there are too few flowers. Therefore, for the black-tailed godwit’s too little to eat because the insects stay away. Also, the grass is often too early mown, so chicks will not be able to hide. They are so easy prey for other animals.

Especially in the North of the Netherlands was the number of black-tailed godwit’s low, writes to RTV Drenthe. The birds breed later than in the rest of the country. The breeding season was at the end of may, when the sunny and dry spring weather turned and thunderstorms with heavy hagelbuienstormen about the region drew. That hit so the growing chicks extra hard because they are younger and therefore more vulnerable than elsewhere.
