Chamber wants extra money for Defence – Volkskrant

Defense gets the next few years may be additional money. A majority of the House, the government has tonight called first to bring the future ambitions of the armed forces in card and then to indicate which budget is needed for this.

The changed international relations, such as the war in Ukraine and the violence of Islamic State in Syria and Iraq, have led to an end to two decades of cuts in the defense budget. For the first time there will be structurally 100 million euros. However, a large part of the Chamber finds that in the coming years, more needs to be invested in Defence.

Security Situation
The government should adjust the budget by indicating what the necessary level of ambition after 2015, partly in light of the international security situation. A motion to that effect from the SGP, VVD, Christian Union and CDA also got Thursday night support of the PVV, D66, the group Bontes / Van Klaveren, Van Vliet and the two 50PLUS fractions.

Premier Mark Rutte (VVD) liked the sympathetic motion, which in his opinion should not be construed as a claim for future money. however VVD leader Halbe Zijlstra said it is not a claim, but he urged his party to look to participate in the parliamentary debate on the military law and therefore must have to see if the defense apparatus.
