No one seems to be the effect of the introduction of feudalism to oversee fears Drs. Els J. van Dijk.
It amazes me that the bill around feudalism almost silently through the House piloted. No civil commotion around a law that will surely bring the necessary cause. The consequences for students are great, but also for the future of young families.
In consideration of the bill this Tuesday in the Senate (followed by a roll call vote), the National Union of Students (LSVb) yet or with a petition against the feudal system, supported with 34 625 signatures. Students adamantly opposed the new law is clear. But although there is a lot at stake, a large part of the (future) students barely aware of what they can expect.
Research shows that three out of four young people their anticipated student debt underestimated within the feudal system; 70 percent of young people do not know exactly about the repayment period and two thirds is not aware that the interest rate is not fixed throughout the term of the debt. Yet it is a lot of money. At present, the average student debt for about 15,000 euros. Add to that the amount of the grant to a non-resident student that goes wrong now, then you come out already on a total debt of 28,000 euros
However, the amount can increase significantly:. A student is allowed in the new system borrow up to 980 euros per month, which is 11,760 euro. A year study be delayed costs for non-resident students (depending on the loan is closed) at least 3350 and up to 11,760 euros.
reification
With the feudal government cares demonstrated no vision to have an education. But the fact is just about its financing, while there is no guarantee that the money is actually spent on education.
The (possible) introduction of the system has also intangible consequences. In his letter to the Senate FNV chairman Ton Heerts highlighted the obstacle for students from financially lower classes to study and the discouragement of vocational students to move on to HBO. Several parties have pointed this out, and the fact that there is no absolute guarantee that the feudal system improves the quality of higher education
In fact,. The introduction of the system, the budget of the higher education entirely new risks and expose forces that no one seems to be able to see, while also continuing uncertainty about the repayment ability of students.
But there is more. The financial pressure in relation to the commercialization of education means that students rapidly to complete their studies, where there is no room for the formative elements of their study and higher education, which in this phase of their lives as elementary to be. The necessary part-time jobs for students the time they can devote to their studies under pressure. The risk is that they can not pushing anymore or want to participate in Christian student organizations.
Characters
The economy, society and perhaps some MPs think about the short term (data driven) while forming just needs time. The point is to develop characters, to human activities, in order to develop into able-bodied adults. Formation is not led by competition, focus on performance, results and workload. Training focuses on the very essence of youth and should never come under pressure or object of his austerity. In education it is “Bildung der Seele”. Not for nothing does not support the Christian political parties, the current bill.
A government that is focused on the future will have to invest in training and education, putting in place of talent under financial pressure. And that government must be clear in its information and communication. It is too ridiculous for words that students still do not know where they stand, and the first date for decentralized selection has already passed.
In the context of what I wrote above, is to follow a year between a very good preparation for successful study in higher education. A year that is cheaper than a year incur a delay in most cases! In an educational year, students often experience tremendous growth spurt in their development and they start will be prepared and mature to a follow-up study. Thus a gap year less than once a luxury, but a thorough preparation and investment in the future.
