The ANV has this initiative chosen because poetry is one of the ways is to make the public aware of the relationship between the Netherlands and Flanders. Language is the prime instrument of the poet, Flemish and Dutch parts of the Dutch language.
Joke van Leeuwen feels at home with the title Poet of the Netherlands. In her head and heart the Netherlands are still united. The poet moved at the age of 13 from Amsterdam to Brussels and therefore knows both sides of the border well.
Poet of the Netherlands, they want a bridge on two legs to close the gap to the south of Roosendaal.
Joke van Leeuwen will write poems of their own choice for a wide audience about relevant things in the Netherlands and Flanders. It will also act as an ambassador for poetry at home and abroad.
