The notorious Ugandan rebel leader Dominic Ongwen, until recently a headpiece within the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA), word Monday arraigned before judges of the International Criminal Court in The Hague. That the court announced today. Tonight the accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity arrived in the Netherlands.
Ongwen is arraigned at 14:00. He was arrested two weeks ago in the Central African Republic by an Islamic battle group. They turned him over to US and African military. Monday his identity is established and informs the ICC Ongwen about the charges.
Ongwen suspected of slavery, mutilation, murder, looting and intentionally attacking civilians. The United States had a reward of five million dollars offered for Ongwen. Whether this amount is paid, indeed, is not yet known. The US has the LRA on the list of terrorist organizations.
The battle of the LRA are tens of thousands of people died. In addition, displaced nearly two million people and the resistance army kidnapped about 25 thousand children. They are used as sex slaves, forced labor or child soldiers. Ongwen himself was kidnapped when he was ten years old, and he quickly climbed in the hierarchy of the battle group
