Applause for Aboutaleb and Van der Laan at launch party congress
Members get more direct influence within the Labour Party. They are less dependent on the departments and delegates. That is the result of a vote on the Labour Party congress Saturday in Utrecht.
Members receive as much as possible the chance to vote via the internet. In elections for a new party leader or president, but also live during conferences. Each member also receives the right one topic on the agenda or to submit an amendment, provided that the support is there from fifty signatures.
President Hans Spekman advocated deeper debates, but not necessarily about many more topics. The party wants to limit the number of amendments to conventions. In the past it was sometimes up to more than a thousand. But that restriction blistering not the Congress. A proposal by the party leadership to maximize the number of amendments on each agenda item five, was voted out.
Applause
Labour mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb and Labour MP Ahmed Marcouch received applause from the Labour Party members at the beginning of the two-day party congress in Utrecht. The same was true for the Amsterdam mayor Eberhard van der Laan. They received applause for their performance after the attacks in Paris.
The reason were the introductory words of Hans Spekman at the congress. Who suggested that the Congress is dominated by the recent atrocities and attacks in Paris. Spekman said murderous terrorists not to tolerate. He advocated a society ,, where we know each other to grub ‘and not ,, in a downward spiral’ ‘enters. Spekman said in that context ,, very proud ” on Marcouch, Aboutaleb and Van der Laan.
