“Thousands of children are unnecessarily at home’ – Telegraaf.nl

This says former Kinderombudsman Marc Dullaert on Monday in Dutch newspaper de Volkskrant. He studied the past few months, the thuiszittersproblematiek.

The number of children that months or years have no education, is located in the Netherlands for years around 10,000. Schools, churches and three ministries in June the Thuiszitterspact signed to this number with Dullaert as a 'catalyst' to bring back. He traveled in recent months by the country and saw that it was in some places good and other not. There is not good cooperation between schools, municipalities and youth care.

“About thuiszitters is sometimes spoken of as children who have a disease. Those children are not sick, they have a special onderwijsbehoefte. It is up to schools and municipalities to provide this."

According to Dullaert like the schools are no solution because they find that they are the children, not the education that they need. “Some vice-chancellors I got, after much questioning, told that they were afraid for worse graduation rates because these students may be poor would score.”

Many communities have the number of children that thuiszit still insufficient in view. “I think that you as a church should want that it goes well with the young people in your congregation. But if you do the money is going to pay attention, focus on the to school of thuiszitters."
