Netherlands will make an additional contribution to the monitoring of Europe’s external borders and rescuing boat people in the Mediterranean.

The use of a Coast Guard aircraft and a fast patrol boat is prolonged, writes Minister Klaas Dijkhoff of Security and Justice Thursday in a letter to the Senate.

The coast guard plane, which in April all flew over the Mediterranean, is re-deployed in October. The deployment of the patrol boat in the Aegean Sea will be extended by two months. With the extension, the government fulfills the commitment which it made at the European Council in April. It was then agreed that the Netherlands would provide additional assistance to the European Frontex border security organization, as was the need.

It also provides reinforcement Netherlands on shore such as buses, detection dog teams, border guards and staff of the gendarmerie. The cost for the extended use of the material are not disclosed. According to a spokesman for the Ministry of Security and Justice, the operating costs for the most part paid from the budget of the Frontex mission itself. According Dijkhoff Netherlands is among the biggest contributors to the EU mission.

The House would tonight with Prime Minister Rutte debate about the European plans with asylum seekers, the stream of refugees must be distributed more fairly among EU Member States. At the request of D66 debate has been postponed to June 11; This gives the government the opportunity to show what he thinks about the proposals from Brussels
