Chamber appoints new National Ombudsman: Reinier van Zutphen – nrc.nl

Reinier van Zutphen was named today by the House to the National Ombudsman. He succeeds Alex Brenninkmeijer, who thirteen months ago departed.
Currently Van Zutphen still president of the College of Trade and Industry.

Last week, it appeared that Van Zutphen was nominated as the new Ombudsman. He is a senior advisor and since 2012 President of the Board of Appeals of the Economy. From 2007 to 2012 he was chairman of the Dutch Association of Judiciary.

Earlier it was intended that former ANWB director Guido van Woerkom the new Ombudsman would be. When it appeared that he had spoken negatively about Moroccan taxi drivers in the past there was much criticism of his appointment. After the fuss about his severance ANWB, Van Woerkom then withdrew. Frank van Dooren took in the meantime, where as Ombudsman.

Van Zutphen was appointed through a new procedure, in which a special committee of MPs he has chosen from a list of 65 candidates. Of the 134 valid votes were 129 to Van Zutphen
