Advanced dementiepatiënt rarely gets euthanasia despite declaration – NU.nl

“There is no question of growth”, says Jacob Kohnstamm, chairman of the Regional review boards, Euthanasia (RTE) against the Volkskrant. up To now, there are only three known cases.

For many doctors, it is unclear what may and may not do. In 2012, physicians ‘ organisation KNMG own rules that are stricter than the legal requirements. The end of 2015, decided the ministers to provide greater clarity by stating that euthanasia is permitted on the basis of a wilsverklaring and if there is unbearable suffering.

The problem is, according to Kohnstamm that “hopeless and unbearable suffering for these patients often is not fixed.” The director of the Dutch Association for a Voluntary end of Life, calls it disappointing that people who, with their full sense a wilsverklaring have signed proves difficult to euthanasia to commit.
