‘No other choice’ than house arrest for asylum seekers Weert – NOS

Mayor Heijmans (D66) of Weert maintains that house arrest is necessary for a group of asylum seekers to the nuisance in a municipality to restrict. The group of twenty or so asylum seekers should only an hour to go outside to run errands, but some of them don’t keep them and continue to cause some nuisance.

According to Heijmans fear a part of the asylum-seekers “god nor commandment”. Last weekend, five members of the group were arrested for robbery and theft. “Really nasty things”, said the mayor. The others behave, however, since she was under house arrest. “Who know that the mean business.”

The Centre for Public Order and Safety, says Heijmans with the imposition of the house arrest in his booklet to go outside. That would not be allowed on the basis of a noodbevel. The association of asylum VAJN says that house arrest is equal to deprivation of liberty and the judge is about to pronounce.

Heijmans pulls himself from that criticism. “I had no other choice,” he says. The mayor tends to be to the measure, which now until after the new year holds, to renew.

The overlastgevers in the asylum centre in Weert come from so-called safe countries in North Africa. They are via Germany to the Netherlands, but have no right to asylum. Heijmans says that they must be turned off.
