Many students continue to select independent gymnasia and ignore the school advice of the school. That is against the law. Starting this school year the advice binding. The Ministry of Education threatens these schools with the cut of subsidies.
It’s gymnasia an eyesore that they themselves have no influence on who their school comes. They are by the new law to allow all students with a VWO advice meeloten for a spot. Even if the high schools that children based on test results from grades 6, 7 and 8 were unsuitable. The advice of the primary school is binding, there should not in any way deviate from.
At least eight high schools try that anyway. They set their admission procedure, open and nudity on the site, they impose additional requirements to the school advice. They can even override this, as an elementary school was not sufficiently substantiated advice. Some examples are the Erasmiaans, Lebanon Lyceum and Marnix Gymnasium in Rotterdam, but also the Haganum in The Hague and the Barlaeus Gymnasium in Amsterdam. They thereby ignore the law.
New Law
Unacceptable, says a spokesman for the Ministry of Education. ,, The new law is clear-cut. Students should not be dismissed as a high school disagrees with the binding advice or based on results in the final test. “
The inspectorate tap schools on the fingers if they have changed their notification procedure not yet to the new regulations. The ministry spokesman says that government subsidies may shorten schools that remain uncooperative. ,, The Ministry, inspection, PO council and the Secondary Education Council have done a lot of information. There is no excuse to ignore the law. There may be imposed a sanction funding in that case. ”
Right
secondary schools still draw their own plan, parents can lodge a complaint or go to court . The probability is high that the school of their choice is already full, once they are put in the right.
Joke Gaasbeek, rector of gymnasium Haganum in The Hague, bluntly admits that her school advice elementary school does not follow blindly. She even admits that independent grammar schools have discussed a tactic to continue to influence the selection policy. ,, It is true that on our website that students can be dismissed. There’s obviously been contact with rectors of other high schools. You want that children come to school, who are there really in place. It’s different from a normal VWO. ”
Gaasbeek realizes that the drafting of the Haganum and the other high schools is not sustainable if schools and parents stand firm. ,, We will try to convince and personally I think they are still children that we should be able to refuse if they are unsuitable in our eyes. It is in the interest of the child. ”
The Erasmiaans Rotterdam allows the site to be able to ignore school advice but rector Paul Scharff promises that his school will adhere to the law.
