Netherlands fries biggest seller in Europe – AD.nl

Netherlands produced (in euros) in 2013, almost a third of the total European production of frozen potato products. This makes the Netherlands the largest producer of French fries, potato slices and rösti of Europe. This is evident from figures published today by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS).



The Dutch frozen-food industry processed fewer potatoes than in 2012, but due to high potato prices after a cold spring sales remained the same and the Netherlands, was measured in euros, the largest producer of frozen potatoes.

Belgium the largest in quantity
Netherlands produced last year, 1.4 billion pounds of frozen potatoes. Belgium processed about 60 million pounds more and was thus amount to the largest producer in Europe. Dutch ate itself 306 million pounds of frozen potatoes, or over 18 kilos per capita.

The Dutch production of frozen potatoes had a value of 1.1 billion euros. It was also introduced for 230 million euros. By far the majority, 87 percent, is destined for export. Over three-quarters goes to European countries, especially the UK, Germany and France. It is remarkable that Saudi Arabia and Brazil are in fourth place and five.
