Amsterdam purchased the first municipality on minimum wage – NU.nl

The city council voted Thursday morning in a PvdA proposal, GroenLinks, SP and Party Elders.

Companies that want to get a commission from the town, workers between 18 and 23 years not claimed pay the statutory minimum wage. The municipality will incorporate that in tenders in the conditions.

The municipality will itself as an employer the handful of young officials still get paid according to the youth wage, give more money. The municipality of Zwolle did before already, but the proposal goes much further in Amsterdam, says Reinier Angels FNV Young & amp; United.

Age

The youth wage amounts to 18 year olds 45.5 percent of the minimum wage and then goes up incrementally. The Netherlands is one of the few countries in Europe where workers over the age of eighteen must make do with less than the ‘normal’ minimum wage.

In April, the government decided it all to lower the age limit for the minimum wage from 23 to 21 years. This means that employees of 22 and 23 years may go significantly improved next year
