A salvage team in northern Canada found the body of one of the two missing Dutch explorers. To which of the two it is, is not yet known, reports the website of the organization Cold Facts.
Cornelissen and De Roo left on April 6 from Resolute Bay for a trip of 400 kilometers over the sea ice. On 29 April, at 8.55 am (Dutch time) a distress inside the Dutch base camp.
The rescue of Cold Facts arrived yesterday at the spot where the stuff of men’s coats. Despite “personal risk” the team managed to salvage the remains of one of the men. The body of the second missing man was unable to locate the team.
Hard passable
The area where the Dutch lost is remote and difficult to access. Therefore, early May sent a helicopter to investigate the feasibility of a salvage operation. When was the dog that was walked to be rescued by the Dutch. Of the men was no trace. Presumably, one of the two dropped through the ice, after which the other is to search. The rescue team that is now basically look at the site, said the circumstances indeed indicate that the two may have fallen through the ice. According to the team is the condition of the ice on the spot very poor.

Cornelissen and De Roo collected data on ice thickness for Cold Facts, an initiative of Cornelissen. The organization’s mission is to link polar explorers in the field of polar researchers. Cold Facts works for this include with universities, the WWF and European space agencies ESTEC and ESA
