Skin Doctors: forbid individuals to buy tanning – nrc.nl

It should be prohibited for individuals to buy a tanning bed. This is suggested by the association of dermatologists nDVD, NOS reported tonight. Research shows that people who use tanning have an increased risk of skin cancer. Especially young people who are often using the solarium at risk.

The skin doctors therefore also believe that tanning salons should be more tightly controlled. If that does not work safely, sanctions should be imposed. According nDVD apparent from European research in the Netherlands shows 40 percent of the studios no or insufficient advice and the customer does not inform sufficiently about the risks.

In twenty years, the number of Dutch people for the first time is diagnosing skin cancer gets more than tripled, from 17,000 to nearly 53,000 people each year. The number of patients is increasing annually by 6 to 9 percent. How many of them get cancer from the sun is not exactly say because people often sunbathe often sunbathe outside.

Researcher Tamar Nijsten Erasmus MC calls to the NIS on a societal debate about the consequences of excessive sun, “so we too tan no longer associate with vitality and sexy.”
