ROERMOND – The city of Maastricht colored Saturday’s ‘pink’ for the so-called Pink Saturday. The organization is very pleased with the turnout, a spokesman has about 12,500 to 15,000 people.
The day opened with an ecumenical service with an imam, a priest, a pastor, one of the Humanist Association and a member of the Jewish community. In addition, there was an information, speeches and performances.
The first Pink Saturday was as well known in 1979 in our Roermond place and was primarily a protest against the harsh policies of the then Bishop Jo Gijsen which gay men chased out of the church.
