Weather flood victims identified – Telegraaf.nl

The police investigation into the identity of unknown victims of the flood of 1953 led to a new identification.

A woman and unknown dead buried in Ouwerkerk (municipality Schouwen-Duiveland) has been identified as Maartje Verhelst from Nieuwerkerk, which came to life during the disaster at the age of 38.

The Dutch Forensic Institute (NFI) has its DNA compared genetic material from relatives, two women 54 and 61 years from Zeeland. The killed woman was their aunt, police said Thursday.

In 2013 groove police in cooperation with the NFI 29 unknown victims in the municipality of Schouwen-Duiveland and two in Goes Reimerswaal on to finish dna material to take. In February this year there was a direct match between a 77-year-old man from Wezep and his mother was buried as unknown victims of the disaster in Yerseke
