Like the missing chickens turkeys will suffer from the effects of rapid growth and filthy, cramped stables. Many turkeys also become infected with the deadly disease black heads.
Figures from Wakker Dier shows that are held almost 800 thousand turkeys at about 41 companies in the Netherlands.
Such 15 percent of these companies would have to do with the black heads disease caused by a parasite, which can kill infected in a stable up to half of the turkeys. At present, there is no authorized medicinal product.
Wakker Dier is concerned about the lack of European legislation and calls in a letter to Van Dam Secretary for the rapid introduction of Dutch rules to a better life for turkeys should lead, including a ban on fast-growing varieties. The organization goes supermarkets of their responsibility
