PSV acquitted of unlawful State aid – NU.nl

The committee examined the land deal in 2011 whereby the Municipality of Eindhoven land acquired under the PSV stadium for 48 million euros. The Eindhoven club had at that time financial problems.

Conclusion of the study is that the price is absolutely competitive for the land. This completes the formal investigation procedure.

“PSV is happy that there is clarity come into this long-term issue,” says Toon Gerbrands Monday in response to the PSV website.

“From the beginning it has been clear to all parties that there was a legitimate deal. The confirmation by the European Commission ensures that this chapter can be closed.”

Five municipalities

The research is not only aimed at PSV. The commission began in 2013, the investigation into financial support for a total of five Dutch municipalities.

The committee recognizes that this land transaction was competitive. The municipalities of Nijmegen (NEC; 2.2 million), Maastricht (MVV; 3.55 million), Den Bosch (3.05 million) and Tilburg (Willem II 2.4 million) supported their local clubs but exonerated distortion of competition
