Warm memories and a thundering typhoon: Apekop makes afscheidsrit – Omroep Brabant

EINDHOVEN – The train from Deurne to Eindhoven takes slightly more than a quarter of an hour. On march 30, 2016 was the last official reizigersrit of the Mat'64, better known as Apekop. The train, with its distinctive nose makes Sunday a victory lap through the country, and then forever to the rails to leave.

The two units of the Apekop were years of plenty to see on the track. Fifty years drove the train to marry her laps. There were originally even 246. With the advent of the double decker buses, they were slowly but certainly less used.

That much to the chagrin of the train through the whole country, that the characteristic sounds of the train could appreciate. Throughout the country there are people on platforms to catch the train one more time to see. Seventy trains that Apekop meeting also provide a eresaluut with the 'typhoon', the great horn of the train.

Apekop once more for the lens
At the railway station in Eindhoven, the train is greeted by dozens of spotters. Armed with cameras and cameras, they tried the last arrival. Some because they are simply a beautiful train find, others because they are warm memories to cherish of the coach.

Reporter Jacqueline Hermans spoke to several people who were waiting. "So many cameras, I’ve never seen. It seems like the king and queen are about to arrive," she says. The train remained ten minutes at Eindhoven, and then the procession went further to Den Bosch.

Great stories on the last ride
in the Apekop three hundred lucky passengers. Thousands of people have joined the NS reported for a town, a third of them should. Because they are beautiful photos of beautiful stories.

As also Jens Bothmer. He often drove with his grandmother with the train. The two took a day trip to Eindhoven for example. "Grandma was at one point not so mobile anymore, it wasn’t more.”

“Just before she died was she started on that train, that 'ie taken out of service would be. We have then a very nice conversation about it yet," says Bothmer. So everyone has his or her own warm memories from the equipment. Although a few are scared of the deafening noise of the horn.
