Track manager ProRail going to try a new technique for the inconvenience of autumn leaves on the track counter. In collaboration with the NS and the Technical University of Delft, a test is carried out with the weglaseren of the leaves, said a spokeswoman for ProRail today after reports in the Noordhollands Dagblad.
In the United Kingdom, there is already been a successful test with the laser on track in 2006, but ProRail waited until the technology was developed, said the spokeswoman. The ‘small’ trial is taking place on a few tracks as autumn really starts.
The laser test should this fall to compete with another trial that ProRail make in the fight against the leaves. In addition, the spores are sprayed, which can prevent the leaves from sticking to the rails. This idea comes from a machinist and also tested on a limited scale. The costs of both techniques spokeswoman could not say Thursday.
Delays
In autumn leaf fall and rain make sure that there is some kind of gunk on the rails is , which trains glide and slower acceleration and braking. This regularly leads to delays.
In addition to the two tests so does ProRail standard measures that the nuisance must counteract. Trees are cut down or pruned, along the track there are fenced off and parts of the rails are coated with a special sand and metaalgel (Sandite) to the track to make stiffer
