US President Barack Obama is the general of the Marine Corps, Joseph F. Dunford, appoint as chief of staff for US forces. He will thus succeed Martin Dempsey as top soldier in the US Army.
The president officially announces today that the 59-year-old Dunford at the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff will be placed, as writing several US media.
The general thus becomes one of the main advisers to the president in the area of Defence. Its predecessor, the 63-year-old Dempsey stood since 2011 at the head of the army. His tenure of four years is as good as on.
The official transfer of power will take place in the autumn. The US Senate will probably still have to approve the nomination of Dunford
