There will be an investigation into the situation in the extra-security prison (EBI) in Vught. Development minister Stef Blok (VVD) said today, in response to questions from D66, reports news agency ANP.

D66 MP Gerard Schouw questions asked after reports in Telegraph on Saturday that the prison in Vught “leak” would be. It would appear from two recent incidents: an attempted escape of a dangerous prisoner would be kept quiet. The prisoner would have taken two ijzerzaagjes, one of which he could give to a fellow prisoner. Nor could a prisoner sentenced to life imprisonment, Lau G. commit suicide with pills.

Block today said that no ijzerzaagjes be smuggled, but the metal plates were shoes which cartels were applied. According to the minister, they can not be used to kill someone or to escape it. About the pills Block said it Lau G. these had secretly saved in a device for snoring.

“He was smarter than the system.”

This morning reported Telegraph that the prison Vught is not only leak, but also faces a crisis of authority: the director would conduct a dictatorship and many staff would stress, workload and sickness sitting at home. Block promised an investigation, but said that this care comes before speed. D66 was just a quick search because possible measures are needed and security is at stake.

Block replaced Ard van der Steur Minister of Security and Justice. He has been in Luxembourg for European consultations.
