A number of name lists with the names of about 180 Indonesians who were executed in 1947 on the island of Sulawesi, have surfaced in the National Archives. Reported Correspondent . The lists may represent a breakthrough in the lawsuits that have been filed by relatives of the victims against the Dutch State.

This is in total approximately sixty witnesses and a number of listings that have never been mentioned before, showing the names of some 180 Indonesians who are summarily executed. Of such documents was always assumed that they remained in Indonesia after the Netherlands withdrew about wore out the country’s sovereignty.



Damages of 20,000 euros

In March, the court ruled that children victims are entitled to compensation from the State. It was previously awarded damages to a dozen widows. The relatives should be able to do by 17 June to demonstrate that their father, or in the case of widows their spouse is actually executed. It is about five children and eight widows. If they manage to prove indeed kin to his victims they can to 20,000 euros compensation given by the Dutch State.

Three names on the death lists of Indonesians whose relatives do have a lawsuit but not yet have received compensation. The relatives of two other men on the list do have already received money from the Dutch State. Of the remaining 175 men killed so far no survivors were reported.

How do lists and testimonials have ended up in the Netherlands, according to Correspondent no longer be retrieved. There constantly appearing new documents or photographs from that period. Finding documentation has proved difficult because of the chaotic situation in Indonesia at that time. Witness statements and kill lists can serve as conclusive evidence for the court.



stronghold of resistance

Sulawesi, formerly called Celebes, was a stronghold of resistance against the Dutch colonists. Fearing that the locals would help the resistance fighters, cease Dutch soldiers villages ablaze and Indonesian men were summarily executed. According to Correspondent it in one month – January 14, 1947 until February 14, 1947 – definitely go to 1,200 men killed

In 2013, compensation had already been paid to a number of widows of Indonesians. who were murdered on Sulawesi. The Netherlands also offered when officially apologize. In 2011, the same was true for the widows of the Javanese village Rawagade whose husbands had left there life
