Preventive test for cancer has proved very effective over the last 25 years. According to a research on the disease prevention policies that Minister Schippers (Health, VVD) today sent to parliament. Criticism is there, including the slow decision-making.

According to the research conducted by external agency Panteia, which use is made largely of all previous assessments carried out, it appears that the number of women dies of breast cancer through screening more than 30 percent has declined since the mid eighties. The number of deaths from cervical cancer is more than halved

According to chairman of the research team Professor Mackenbach of Erasmus MC Netherlands doing better than neighboring countries.

“It is quite likely that a substantial health benefit is achieved with these prevention programs.”

The research is the first comprehensive audit of Dutch disease prevention policy since the introduction of the Public Health Act in 2009. Panteia example also examined other prevention programs, such as the heel prick test to detect diseases in babies and vaccinations. Virtually all programs according to the researchers “effective and efficient”.

Being critical investigators about the government action around the outbreak of Q fever. Then there’s “failed in guarding the public interest”, including “providing sufficient counterweight to the interests of the agricultural sector.” There has since been well worked on a better study of the risks of livestock to humans, but “it remains unclear to what extent the fundamental problem with this is resolved.”

The slowness of the government on the introduction of screening programs or new vaccines is also a bottleneck. This is partly due to the “great care decision-making.”

“But it would be too easy to leave it at that conclusion. Every year postponement of an effective prevention program actually leads to hundreds, sometimes thousands of preventable illnesses. “

Third sore point is that there is little information available about the efficiency and effectiveness of prevention programs. It is unclear whether the heel prick it is cost effective, and is part of the youth health is not known whether the policy works
