The police last night arrested sixteen people in raids in three Amsterdam coffeehouses. The arrests were made on suspicion of illegal gambling, drug possession and failure to show identity documents. The raids are part of the approach against violent assassinations and shootings taking place lately regularly in the capital.

The three cases are on the Admiral Ruijterweg (Tafoghalt), Jan van Galenstraat (The Challenger ) and Wolbrantskerkweg (Caglyan). The raids were also found hard drugs. According to police, was one of the things a meeting place for people from the criminal world who use extreme violence. The other two cases were visited on suspicion of gambling and drug trafficking. It was then passed to raids oath. The Amsterdam municipality must now decide whether the coffee shops may remain open.

Amsterdam lately plagued by violent shootings in public places, which started the killings in the Staatsliedenbuurt. Last month, a man in Clercqstraat was shot. In addition, a passing tram was hit by bullets. Even in a parked car, a supermarket and two bank buildings were bullet holes. In January and February were shootings place where people died. Each went to the acquaintances of the police.

Minister Van der Steur (Security and Justice, VVD) said after the shooting last month that he serious concerns are the growing and increasingly becoming more extreme violence. Perpetrators have mistaken several times, causing innocent victims have been killed. The raids were the Public Prosecutor, municipality of Amsterdam, Defense, Customs, Social Affairs Inspectorate and the Tax present
